A chronic pain management specialist, Dr. Chen performs interventional procedures such as spine & joint interventions, peripheral nerve blocks, sympathetic blocks, and stimulator implants. She also delivers customized medication regimens, including high-dose opioid tapering, and manages pain pumps for cancer and injury patients.
Dr. Chen’s passion for medicine was sparked in her childhood as she watched helplessly while her father suffered from a great deal of chronic pain. It was then that she decided to dedicate her career to the field of pain management. She completed her M.D. from Norman Bethune Medical School in China, followed by a Ph.D. in Orthopedic Surgery from Queen’s University in the UK, and a post-doctoral Research Fellowship at Harvard Medical School in Boston. From there, she completed her residency at University of Toledo Medical Center and later served in a Pain Fellowship at University of Washington.
A member of the American Society of Anesthesiology and North American Neuromodulation Society, Dr. Chen is board certified in Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology. She is also a stem cell scientist and has published more than 10 research articles. Her special interests lie in leveraging stem cell therapy as an alternative approach to pain relief.
